The Honey Standard
Help shape The Honey Standard
A credible standard needs the knowledge of the people who produce, handle, study and care about honey. We are inviting practical and technical input while the requirements are being developed.
Expertise that makes a difference
We would welcome perspectives from beekeepers and bee farmers, extraction and packing operators, honey authenticity specialists, bee health experts, laboratories, food professionals and people experienced in assurance and governance.
The proposed scope follows honey through production, extraction and packing. Our aim is to make authenticity, traceability and responsible practice meaningful to buyers and achievable for responsible operators.
Start with a manageable contribution
You do not need to commit to an ongoing role. An introductory conversation, comments on one relevant section, or advice on evidence and practical implementation can all help.
Please tell us which area interests you, the experience you would bring and the amount of time you would be comfortable offering.
Voluntary contributions at this stage
Development contributions are currently voluntary and unfunded. Before work starts, we will agree the scope, how the input will be used and any attribution or confidentiality preferences.
As THS develops, formal roles (including potentially paid board positions) may become possible. These would depend on funding, the skills needed and an appropriate appointment process; a contribution does not guarantee a future role.
A standard developed with care
We want to hear constructive challenges as well as support. Contributors should disclose interests relevant to their input, so that different perspectives can be considered fairly.
Watch the introduction to THS, then get in touch to discuss where your expertise could help.
